Imagine walking into any shoe retailer and asking if they stock your shoe size. Not in any particular shoe, just in general. How confident are you that the store attendant will say, yes?
Women who wear a particular size avoid ever asking, as the answer is likely to be no. CoIX’s co-founders, Charlotte and Sherene, know this experience all too well with size US 12 feet, out of range from your typical store’s line which ends in a US 8 or 9.
Whilst women’s feet have grown two sizes since the 1970s from a size eight to ten for men and from a size four to size six for women, according to the College of Podiatry, mainstream brands have failed to catch up.
“When size five was average the industry would think providing two sizes above to a seven was just about the fringe of adequate for women, but now that it’s a six, we should be seeing far more eights and even nines as standard,” says the college’s Dr Jill Halstead-Rastrick.
Having struggled to find fun, modern footwear to meet their busy, versatile lifestyles as London professionals they resolved to create a brand for people just like them. “We noticed the body positive movement was in an upswing, but it didn’t seem to include flying the flag for larger feet,” says Sherene.
Just like brands that are currently working to change the face of plus size fashion, Charlotte and Sherene want to change the way larger shoes are made and designed. Offered in just three sizes; US 11, 12 and 13 (UK 9, 10, 11 and EU 44, 45 and 46), the niche brand’s debut capsule collection is modern luxury at it’s finest. Featuring 5 elevated essentials , each available in 2 colors, every shoe is handmade by artisan shoemakers in Spain.
Inspired by the rich colors of a desert sunset, favorites include the fun mustard Monaco block heel sandals and the blush pink suede Marylebone pump to add a dash of joy and whimsy to any ensemble. The buttery maple brown leather Dalston ankle boots are sure to be staples in your everyday wardrobe.
Available now exclusively online at coixshoes.com, the 10 shoe collection ranges from £140 — £200 (approx. $185 — $265).
