[prMac.com] Seoul, Korea – Gaon, Inc. today is pleased to introduce Mud Snail Maiden 1.0 free for iOS, its new interactive kid’s book that is a retelling of the popular Korean fable for English speaking audiences. Similar in plot structure and action to the European fables so well known in the West, both kids and parents will be fascinated by the unusual homes, daily life, castles, and villains depicted in this classic fable from the East. Mud Snail Maiden is called an anibook; it has no text or pages, but uses original children’s book illustrations, and the voices of characters and the narrator are heard aloud. Cinematic editing techniques add drama to the story, and kids can touch the continue button embedded in scenes to go on with the story.
According to Wikipedia, “A fable is a succinct fictional story, in prose or verse, that features animals, mythical creatures, plants, inanimate objects or forces of nature which are anthropomorphized (given human qualities such as verbal communication), and that illustrates or leads to an interpretation of a moral lesson (a moral), which may at the end be added explicitly in a pithy maxim.”
* A wonderful story from Korea, the lamp of Asia
* Classic fable translated for English speaking audiences
* Beautiful illustrations and fun music and sound effects
* Every scene is filled with Korea’s picturesque scenery and the beauty of its traditional culture
Resembling in some ways The Princess and the Frog, Mud Snail Maiden is about a simple snail who, it is revealed later in the story, is really the beautiful daughter of the Dragon King under the sea. Bawoo, the hero, discovers the snail one day as he is plowing his field. He bemoans that after his hard work he has no one with whom to share his lunch. He hears a small voice saying, “I will.” He cannot discover where the voice is coming from, and there are many humorous moments as he imagines the scarecrow, tree, or house has come to life.
Finally, he discovers the small, pink mud snail in the freshly turned furrow beneath him. She asks him to bring her home and keep her in his large water jar. The next morning, he wakes up to find that his breakfast is waiting for him. He is amazed. He does not make any connection between the snail and this miraculous event. As time goes on, his meals are cooked, house cleaned, and laundry washed whenever he returns from work.
He decides to hide, so he can discover whom he needs to thank for all this unexpected help. He sees the lid to his water barrel rise, and a beautiful princess emerges. She is responsible for all the work that has been secretly done. Bawoo asks her to marry him, but she refuses.
Kids will discover why the maiden was turned into a mud snail, if the two ever marry, and the involvement of her father, the Dragon King. Kids will quickly recognize Mud Snail Maiden as a moral tale with all the elements of the famous fables and fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers or Hans Christian Anderson. Completely new in Mud Snail Maiden will be the Korean characters and settings. A wonderful cross-cultural experience, the anibook is destined to become a favorite of kids everywhere.
