[prMac.com] New York, New York – Panther Connect, from PantherTechnology, magically transforms the iPad into a wildly innovative Trackpad, with features and interfaces that provide individuals with new ways to control computers, unleashing a whole new world of access and possibility.
This Premium App for iOS, based on Universal Design principles, literally rethinks how people with unique needs and motor challenges can better operate computers, by offering a variety of unique User Interfaces, each geared toward specific challenges and requirements.
For example, a Two-Axis Pad confines cursor movement on the computer to only up/down or right/left, no matter how straight a hand moves on the iPad surface. That means people with CP or Parkinsons – or any individual doing repetitive grid-based task – can eliminate unwanted diagonal movements.
In another hugely innovate mode, Split Speed, Panther Connect allows a person to access two speeds on one Trackpad. If you touch on the left of the iPad, the cursor moves along the computer screen at a fast speed. Touch on the right and the cursor moves slowly. That means people who have trouble zeroing in on a point can first move the computer cursor to a general area, and then move slowly to the specific point they want. That’s ideal for addressing motoric challenges, cognitive focus issues, or anyone using a screen with many zones.
Panther Connect features a host of other options such as one-touch mouse controls, touch-buttons that open files and navigate menus. And full control of iTunes and other applications you have on your computer – all from your iPad! It features an interface that is not only gorgeous, but extremely intuitive.
The company’s founder and CEO, Richard Ellenson, previously created the Tango, a Speech Generating Device for which he was named an ABC World News Person of the Year. The Tango has been featured everywhere from the Vienna Design Museum to NY’s Liberty Science Center and helped bring about significant advances in Assistive Technology.
“Certainly the iPad is a magical device,” said Richard. “But we’ve rethought it as a magical interface. The result is a yet another new way to look at iPads – one with huge implications for changing how we work. For everyone like my son, who faces motoric challenges associated with his cerebral palsy, to people in fields that rely on increasingly complex software interfaces, Panther Connect is like purchasing a breakthrough piece of hardware – but at software prices.”
Alan Brightman,Vice President for Global Accessibility at Yahoo! said, “Panther products are not just thoughtful and uniquely creative. They also reflect an expectation that people will succeed in ways that may have seemed impossible before. It’s rare that products show this kind of respect for its users.”
