[prMac.com] Topeka, Kansas – GoodReader, the world’s best-selling document reader for iPhone and iPad, announces support for Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, making it easier-than-ever to share documents with Windows PCs and laptops. Support for SMB, the standard protocol which all Windows computers use to share folders on a local network, makes it easier to connect from GoodReader to a PC or laptop for sharing files between the computer and iPad or iPhone.
GoodReader users have already been able to exchange files between their iOS devices and their PCs using other protocols, such as WebDAV, FTP, SFTP and AFP, but supporting SMB simplifies the process because it is the native protocol for Windows, as well as a number of NAS drives, and requires practically zero set-up. Now, GoodReader users simply connect from the app on their iPads or iPhones to a shared folder on a Windows machine or to a NAS drive.
“A key goal of GoodReader is to deliver unparalleled file viewing and sharing options, but still be super simple for anyone to use,” said Yuri Selukoff, president of Good.iWare. “Now you can literally exchange files between GoodReader and your Windows computer without getting up from the couch.”
To make it even easier to set-up, the new version of GoodReader also offers an auto-discovery feature which automatically finds SMB servers and shares on a local WiFi network.
Business users also enjoy the vast means of file-sharing GoodReader offers, including support for Dropbox, Microsoft SkyDrive, Google Drive, SugarSync, box.com, Novell NetStorage and Microsoft Office 365 (SharePoint) servers, joining other WebDAV, SFTP, AFP or FTP servers in enabling users to sync and share files over remote servers. GoodReader enables users to sync entire folders or individual files separately.
As always, existing GoodReader users can download and install this new version for free. New users can purchase GoodReader in the App Store for US$4.99.
Since its release, the iPad version of GoodReader has achieved #1 in sales in the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Spain and many others. GoodReader is known as the top document reader for viewing, navigating and annotating large PDF documents on an iPhone and iPad. Besides its annotate and text search capabilities, other key GoodReader features are active hyperlinks, which enable users to more easily navigate within the document or launch a linked document or website, and PDF Reflow. GoodReader has also set the standard for iOS document readers in the enterprise, offering a high level of document security and synchronization with remote servers.GoodReader
