Chordtunes – Redefining learning to play music for stringed instruments

[] Fresno, California – John Baxter, the publisher of Mandozine and UkeFarm, has launched a new Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for the development of Chordtunes, an iPad app for creating chord sheets for multiple instruments.

There are an immense number of amatuer musicians at all levels, playing a wide range of stringed instruments. The current ability to easily create chord sheets for a variety of instrument tunings is limited. Sheet music often displays chords by name but not by diagram, or the sheet music may only include guitar diagrams. Chordtunes creates diagrams for guitar, ukulele, and mandolin, eliminating the need to look up chords the player may be unfamiliar with. Chordtunes can be used at music lessons, capture chords for a tune a friend shares, create personal compositions, and share chord sheets with other users.

Chordtunes is a text editor for creating chord sheets. Entering chords is as easy as typing. A custom input keyboard provides an easy way to select and enter the chords. There is no need to worry about which instrument to select. A chord sheet will display for any instrument the app supports, automatically converting the chord sheet to the instrument tuning.

There’s no shortage of music available, but the problem is that many tunes are difficult to find, and certainly not available for a specific instrument. Chordtunes provides a comprehensive set of features, portability, independence of the Web, and the ability to share music with others. Baxter states, “It’s frustrating to find a tune you want to learn, and have to spend time looking up the chords in a chord book or app. Chordtunes is not intended to dumb down the learning process. Creating a chord sheet provides not only music you can add to your library of tunes, it is a great learning tool, allowing you to create chord progressions, or a chord sheet of chords you want to learn and practice”.

Many musicians have immersed themselves in the music, culture, and community for their chosen genre or instrument. There are festivals, workshops, and clubs supporting the community of enthusiasts. Chordtunes is intended to provide a tool for sharing their common interest in playing and learning music. Indiegogo is a crowdsourcing platform that helps creative projects come to life.
