[prMac.com] Ashland, Oregon – The creators of the popular “Art Authority” app line today announced immediately availability of a “Prints on Demand” feature in Art Authority for iPad, Apple’s “Best iPad Reference app” of 2011. The first result of the previously-announced partnership with world-renown Bridgeman Art Library, “Prints on Demand” lets users order customized high-quality reproductions of key works of art from within the app. The new version of the app (4.7) also adds features from Apple’s new iOS 6, including integrated Facebook support.
Prints on Demand adds an ORDER button to major works of art displayed by the app. The user taps the button and provides custom details of the print they would like: size, paper type (including a canvas option) and framing. They provide billing and shipping information and place the order. A high-end print is created, utilizing a Bridgeman-provided ultra-high resolution image of the work, and the expertise of local print partner The Image Collective. The final product is shipped directly to the customer.
The Prints on Demand service can also be accessed by any Internet user through the new Art Authority community Web site. The service is available throughout the US, with plans to add Canada within a month, and other countries after that.
“We’re really gratified to see the initial results of our partnership with Bridgeman and The Image Collective,” said Alan Oppenheimer, president of Art Authority co-developer Open Door Networks. “Prints on Demands is a big step in our mission of making more art available to more people in more ways.”
The partnership with Bridgeman Art Library has also resulted in the addition of thousands of retina-display-quality images to the Art Authority database. In addition to displaying these new images, Art Authority for iPad 4.7 adds support for Apple’s new iOS 6 operating system, including its integrated social networking features. Users can easily post information on any work they are viewing to their Facebook or Twitter account.
Art Authority for iPad 4.7 is available immediately through the iTunes App Store for $9.99. Upgrades from previous versions are free. Details are available on the Art Authority Web site.
Art Authority for iPad is the only iPad Reference app to be named to the Rewind 2011 and Rewind 2010 “best of” lists from Apple. It brings over 55,000 high-resolution classic works of art to users’ fingertips. Hailed as “an experience unlike any other” and “visually dazzling,” the app stunningly displays paintings and sculptures by over 1000 major western artists from ancient times through current-day. Art Authority for Macintosh, iPhone, and Kindle Fire bring similar functionality to these devices.
Founded in 1972, the Bridgeman Art Library works with museums, art galleries and artists to make the best art available for reproduction. The result is an outstanding archive of images drawn from collections throughout the world, all of which are available for licensing. Every subject, concept, style and medium is represented, from the masterpieces of national museums to the hidden treasures of private collections. Fine art is just one of the sources of images; design, antiques, maps, architecture, photography, textiles, glass, ceramics and many other categories feature in the collection.
The Image Collective (TIC) provides high quality services to museums, libraries, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions worldwide. Specializing in print-on-demand services, TIC leverages a legacy of pioneering print development and deep connections to the fine art community into programs that can generate significant revenue for the institutions with which they partner.Art Authority
