[prMac.com] Ashland, Oregon – Art Authority, developers of the award-winning line of classic art apps, today announced “Art Real Size,” a new way of looking at and understanding art. Available immediately as part of Art Authority for iPad, “Art Real Size” lets users instantly and intuitively see and comprehend the actual size of many of the 65,000 classic paintings and sculptures displayed by the app. The app is on sale for half price to celebrate.
Until now, Art Authority and most other art sources would display each work of art at about the same size: completely filling the whole screen, or some large part of it, or in an array of small thumbnail images of related works. The site might also include the size of the work in an overall description (such as “25.2 x 37.8 in”), but this numeric data doesn’t really mean anything to most users, who end up ignoring it. “Art Real Size” replaces numbers we can’t understand with images and context we can.
Art Authority for iPad has always displayed its art in the context of a real-world museum, framed and hanging on the walls of professionally designed rooms. “Art Real Size” adds one simple, key element to that context, which immediately makes clear and comprehensible the size of those framed works: people. By including an appropriately-sized image of a couple looking at a work, Art Authority intuitively conveys the size of that work.
“Size really does matter when it comes to art,” said Alan Oppenheimer, president of Art Authority. “You can’t fully understand the Mona Lisa without understanding how small it is, nor Michelangelo’s David or ‘Last Judgment’ without understanding how large. With Art Real Size users gain this understanding instantly.”
“If you can get to the museum to see a work of art, you should. If not, Art Real Size is the next best way to fully understand and appreciate works of art.”
To show what “Art Real Size” is all about, Art Authority has posted a video and series of images on its blog. Art Real Size is part of Art Authority for iPad 4.8, available immediately through the iTunes App Store. To highlight and celebrate the new feature, the app is currently available for half-price at $4.99. Upgrades from previous versions are free. Details of the entire line of Art Authority apps and services are available on the Art Authority Web site.
Art Authority for iPad is the only iPad Reference app to be named to both of Apple’s Rewind “best of” lists. It brings 65,000 high-resolution classic works of art to users’ fingertips. Hailed as “an experience unlike any other” and “visually dazzling,” the app professionally displays paintings and sculptures by over 1000 major western artists from ancient times through current-day. Art Authority for Macintosh and iPhone bring similar functionality to these devices.
Art Authority is the product of an innovative collaboration between two separate software companies, Open Door Networks and Project A. Art Authority’s mission is the design, development and deployment of the best ways for users to experience art on their modern-day devices.
