[prMac.com] Chandler, Arizona – Deadly Serious Media today is pleased to introduce ABE (Amorphous Biological Entity) 1.0 for iPad, their remarkably original platformer, where players assume the role of a lab assistant who monitors and guides ABE through 45 torturous lab tests/levels. Unlike most other games of this genre, the character moving from platform to platform can alter his physical state at any time. In his Ball-like state, ABE is bouncy and mobile, in his Balloon-like state, he becomes light and airy, and in his Rock-like form, he is solid and heavy. Players will be surprised to discover what ABE can do, just by instantly changing states at the appropriate moment of gameplay.
“ABE is a puzzle platformer featuring a happy, little, amorphous thing, who was accidentally created in a lab. No big whoop, happens all the time. Now it’s up to you to guide ABE through his lab tests and keep him safe,” advised Allen Isom of Deadly Serious Media.
* Innovative new platformer featuring ABE, an experimental Amorphous Biological Entity
* ABE can instantly change his physical state at will
* ABE can assume his Balloon-state, Ball-state, or Rock-state
* Help ABE figure out how to exploit his abilities to pass the 45 lab tests
* Filled with air, friendly ABE’s cheeks puff out in Balloon-state
* Elastic, sleek, and bouncy in Ball-state, ABE wears a wide smile
* Hard, heavy, and immovable, Rock-ABE grimaces
* Highly original puzzles test the player’s ingenuity in using ABE’s abilities to reach the exit
Primarily a game of logic and coordination, gaming is simple. Two arrow buttons on the lower left control left or right movement. And when touched, a single button on the lower right spawns 3 additional buttons to move between physical states. For example, in Ball-state, ABE will roll left or right using the arrow buttons. The longer the direction button is touched, the more velocity and momentum ABE picks up. Falling off a platform under the influence of standard gravity, he will bounce high, then lower and lower until he finally comes to rest. Alternating between left and right buttons enables the player to position Ball-state ABE precisely.
In his Balloon-state, ABE can easily reach high places or fly above hazards. While aloft, the left and right buttons have a slow and constant effect on ABE’s course. Lastly, in his Rock-state, ABE becomes solid and heavy; the perfect state in which to make a quick drop or break stuff. The directional buttons have no effect on the Entity in this state. While Rock-ABE and Ball-ABE fall at the same rate, Rock-ABE’s greater mass generates more momentum. When falling in Rock-state, players can transfer that greater momentum by changing to Ball-ABE before landing.
The first few puzzle levels are straightforward. The player rolls from the start to the puzzle’s finish, or floats, or falls, or a combination of all three. Soon, the levels become mystifyingly challenging. ABE can easily negotiate obstructions made of glass that are horizontal, but breaking vertical glass barriers is trickier. Going through 45 levels of play, the puzzles become more complex and imaginative. Additional obstacles are added to glass walls, including spikes, grinders, lasers, and graviton beams. Continuously moving obstacles test the player’s timing and coordination. Puzzles contain puzzles within themselves, tasks that must be accomplished to raise the steel door blocking the exit.
“After launch we will be working on an online level editor, where ABE fans can make their own labs and vote on the designs of their peers,” commented Allen Isom. “Each month we will chose the top 15 for that month and include them in the game. So enjoy playing, and be on the lookout for this feature!”
